CHURCHES
We are a strongly religious community of varied faiths, as is typical of Upstate New York. Twenty-three churches comprise the eighteen different congregations in and around Oneonta. Assembly of God, Baptist, Christian Science, Episcopal, Jewish, Lutheran, Mormon, Presbyterian, Religious Society of Friends, Roman Catholic, Salvation Army, Unitarian-Universalist, United Methodist, Seventh Day Adventist, Christian and Community congregations all call Oneonta home. Other religious affiliations include the Otsego County Council of Churches, Oneonta Inter-Church Committee, Campus Ministries of Oneonta and the Church Alive radio program.

SHOPPING
Oneonta's Main Street is one of the most thoroughly charming shopping experiences in upstate New York. Red brick sidewalks and turn-of-the-century style street lamps suggest the disarming feel of a simpler, more genteel era. Main Street's relaxing open air plaza and the many elegant and comfortable benches beckon you to slow your hurried pace; to relax and drink in the ambiance of this Rockwellesque downtown and to engage the panorama of century old architecture and timeless rolling hills. But, while Oneonta's downtown may seem of another simpler time, the many shops belie that notion. Here in the small stores of Oneonta's Main Street, today's shopper will find up-to-the-minute fashions, state-of-the-art merchandise for the home or office, outdoor and indoor entertainments, and every myriad specialty item imaginable. On Oneonta's Southside and in its East and West Ends, malls, chain stores and discount outlets coexist with small "mom and pop" businesses to satisfy even the most demanding shopper.
Oneonta is famous for its wide variety of restaurants and night spots and for a transportation system (OPT) that makes all the dining, entertainment and shopping options of the City and Town accessible to every member of the community. |

HEALTH CARE
A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital was founded in 1900 by Col. Reuben Fox and dedicated to the memory of his wife Aurelia Osborn. Since the turn of the century, Fox has been meeting the health care needs of the residents of Oneonta and the four county area. Fox is a full service community hospital with an outpatient facility, the Fox Care Center in Oneonta's East End, that is unique, innovative, and well-liked by patients and has been a showcase for the institution since its creation in 1997.
Bassett Healthcare, has served as a regionally and nationally known teaching and research facility since the 1920's while at the same time providing quality primary and specialty care services to the area. Bassett operates 23 community health centers and four hospitals in six counties in Central New York, including Bassett Healthcare-Oneonta (at 125 Main Street). This health center offers complete adult, pediatric and obstetrical care as well as free, confidential, anonymous sexually transmitted disease testing for Otsego County residents.
