Ice Harvest 2012
Our most popular event of the year continues! Bundle up the family and come to Hanford Mills Museum to experience one of the coolest local traditions! In the 1800s, the Hanford family would store ice in its ice house for use by local residents to keep their food cold. Today we use our ice to make ice cream during our Independence Day Celebration on July 4th!
Activities include: Children and adults can walk out on the frozen mill pond and help to cut blocks of ice using ice saws! Pull blocks of ice to the ice house using sleds! Enjoy delicious soups donated by dozens of local restaurants, hot beverages, and other tasty treats! Take a ride on a horse-drawn sleigh! Special children's activities! Delicious hot apple cider, roasted peanuts, and baked goods for sale, as well as hand-knit wool hats and mittens! Cooking demonstrations on our antique wood-stove in the 1909 Hanford Farmhouse! Watch historic ice harvesting films from the 1930s and 1940s! Hobart Book Village book sale! Tree pruning demonstrations and discussion with Ryan Trapani from Catskill Forest Association! Ice fishing demonstrations with Trout Unlimited - Dave Brandt Chapter! Exhibit of Charlotte Valley and Roxbury Central School student photographs from the "My Hometown" project with BOCES Creating Rural Opportunities Program (CROP) and much more!!

Cordis Quartet with Lehrer Dance
For over a decade the contemporary quartet Cordis has been redefining contemporary chamber music by fusing an original combination of custom-made and traditional ethnic instruments to create their signature sound. Although the ensemble is built upon cello (Jeremy Harman), concert cimbalom (Richard Grimes), piano (Oscar Rodriguez), and percussion (Andrew Beall) - one-of-a-kind creations such as the electric mbira (an African thumb piano), melodica, and world's longest playing cylinder-driven music box also have a way of weaving their way into any given performance. Time Out New York said, (Cordis) makes a strong case for both sides of its musical personality - expanding the boundaries of chamber music. NewMusicBox.com concurred, "Cordis offers an intriguing mix of instrumentation, and Grimes uses them well to show of his unique perspective on 21st century chamber music." They are currently touring with a small ensemble of dancers from Buffalo, fusing these two art forms. For ticket information and details:

'The Year of the Dragon' 2012 Chinese New Year Festival
A number of children and other community members from Milford, Cooperstown and Cherry Valley are preparing a celebration of the Chinese New Year, a festival from a far-off land that affects their lives everyday. The festival, which honors the Year of the Dragon, is being organized by Milford's Chinese Mandarin Language and Culture Program and will take place Feb. 5 at the Milford Central School, from 11am to 3:30pm. The language and culture program was created last year when Karen Agostino of Hartwick and a group of mothers perceived a need in the community for greater knowledge of Chinese language and culture.
The Chinese New Year Festival will feature guest artists in Asian calligraphy and bonsai, demonstrations in Goju Chinese karate and children's yoga, and a presentation on Zongzi, or stuffed bamboo leaves, according to a media release.
There will be a silent auction and raffle, and the event will be catered by China Wok. There will be a $5 donation per family.

"The City Never Sleeps is a refreshingly hard to categorize rock outfit from Albany, NY unsigned, relatively new on the music scene, but undeniably catchy."

Cooperstown Winter Carnivale 2012
The Cooperstown Winter Carnival, a long-time traditional winter festival, began in 1967 with the intention of offering a variety of activities for residents and tourists to Cooperstown during the early winter month of February. The CWC brings people out into the cold and gives them a reason to celebrate with their friends, neighbors, and visitors. Each year the CWC creates new and exciting events, while bringing the same traditions back that people have come to expect. The CWC is coordinated by a team of 11 volunteers and involves hundreds of businesses and organizations that provide support, resources, and programs and activities. We look forward to seeing you at the Cooperstown Winter Carnival! February 10th - 12th, 2012. For more information:
