SCREENING: Robert - Portrait of an Art-er
Robert is a little known artist and long time resident of Franklin New York. In the late nineties, Robert began constructing fantastic stone castles and keeps from native stone in his small backyard. He has since created amazingly unique works at the homes of several Franklin residents. But, Robert's artistic interests and instincts go way beyond his stonework in ways that are surprising and very enlightening.
Robert is funded in part by a grant from the New York Council on the Arts' Decentralization Program, administered in Delaware County by The Roxbury Arts Group.

SPRING FLING: Jimkata with special guests Shasta Flock and Samurai Pizza Cats
Jimkata is a four piece electro-rock band based out of Ithaca, New York. Known for combining raw guitar power with industrial blasts of synthesizers and drum machines, Jimkata is an example of the modern lengths that a quartet can reach without leaving their rock roots. Described as "one of the best up and coming bands" by jambase.com. Members Evan Friedell (guitar/vocals), Aaron Gorsch (guitar/synth), Dave Rossi (bass) and Packy Lunn (drums) have forged a truly unique and appealing sound through high quality, in depth studio albums and their notoriously explosive live rock shows.
Shasta Flock, a three man band, originated in Oneonta, NY under the influence of a wide variety of artists. These musicians create unique music with common instruments. Shasta Flock's passion for sound keeps them moving and producing more tunes for their growing fan base. This innovative band offers something new and original to the world of music.

The Empire Hotel Presents: Tumbleweed Highway
For the past ten years or more, the members of Tumbleweed Highway have been part of the Americana scene in Upstate New York. Gathering stories from the road and life in a way only a storyteller could. Rising from the ashes of bands such as Panhandle, and Fetish Lane, Tumbleweed Highway blends together the sounds and influences of all their previous families and infuses in new sounds pulling from the depths of their creativity.
With a strong acoustic root to the band, their sound is unmistakably derived from the likes of John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, Lyle Lovett and Gram Parsons. Crafted songs and well rehearsed 4-part vocal harmonies are a strong concentration for the band. At times you hear the resonance of vocal groups like Poco but with raw talent of The Avett Brothers and Dawes. Reservations are always recommended, please call: 607-783-2859.

Carla Ulbrich
Let your funny bone be tickled as this award-winning comical performing songwriter spends a spring evening with us. Carla tours around the US, as well as Canada and England, singing her humorous songs about everything from wedgies to Waffle House to Klingons - and, oh yes - medical humor too. Carla is also an author ("How Can You Not Laugh at a Time Like This?") and humorous keynote speaker, and has a love of wordplay and a keen observational eye, "dabbling" in fingerstyle guitar. Something of a mix between Phoebe and Jeff Foxworthy, she cites her biggest musical influences as Sesame Street, camp songs, and commercial jingles for beer and breakfast cereal.
Tickets for this evening of comedy and song are $12 until the date of the show (plus a $2 service charge) or $15 at the door. For more information:

Talk on Guswentah (Two Row Wampum)
Guswentah (Two Row Wampum) is the focus of an intriguing multidisciplinary talk. Historical and contemporary perspectives on wampum will be offered by Dr. Jolene Rickard (Tuscarora), Dr. Jon Parmenter, and renowned artist Alan Michelson (Mohawk). Admission is free and open to the public.
The weaving of wampum belts is a sort of writing; the designs of beads denote different ideas according to a definitely accepted system. Woven belts of wampum commemorate treaties and historical events. They have also been created for exchange in personal social transactions. The Haudenosaunee Great Law of Peace, the founding constitution of the Iroquois Confederacy, was codified in a series of wampum belts. The flag of the Iroquois Confederacy is a wampum-belt design. And to the Haudenosaunee, wampum is sacred.
The Two Row Wampum treaty, also known as Guswentah, is an agreement made between representatives of the Five Nations of the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) and representatives of the Dutch government in 1613 in what is now upstate New York.
Admission is FREE and OPEN to the public. For more information:

Jerome Irving or "JI" Rodale advanced the organic food movement in US culture and politics through his rhetorical leadership choices. Social movement followers and journalists nicknamed JI Rodale the "Guru of the Organic Food Movement." In the 1940's United States, organic agriculture was not on dominant cultural and political radars. So how did JI Rodale rhetorically feed organic food to America? Rodale exhibited both prophetic and pragmatic leadership through his use of material and symbolic resources to legitimize organic food in the pre-WWII era. This lecture illuminates how an early social movement leader can help effect widespread cultural and political change.

FILM: Messages from Water
7:00pm - 9:00pm
This film takes a photographic look at water crystals, we are able to determine the mysterious effects that music and words have on water. Until now, researchers alone, with the use of their microscopes, had the capacity to witness water crystals grow and expand. Not any more! In this film, water crystals in motion have been caught on video for the first time! Water "listens" to music. Under normal conditions, distilled water can only produce simple hexagonal crystals. Not once it has "listened" to Mozart! Exquisitely shaped crystals formed and expanded as if in pursued of the beautiful music. Water can "read": Showing the word "hope" produced crystals that grew and projected towards the image of hope itself. Dr. Masaru Emoto maintains that water can "feel": Find out what happens when human thought is projected onto water!

The Heritage Plant Sale
10:00am - 4:00pm
Memorial Day Weekend marks the start of the gardening season for many Central New York residents. For over 16 years, they have relied on the Heritage Plant Sale at The Farmers' Museum for hardy, distinctive plants. Many of the plants on sale were propagated from hardy, well-established rootstock by Patrick MacGregor, supervisor of Thrall's Pharmacy at the museum. Plant varieties on sale include sweet cicely, mugwort, valerian, foxglove, and coneflower (Echinacea). Heritage plants are more characteristic and make an excellent addition to any gardener's landscape. MacGregor has started 140 pots of heirloom varieties of vegetables, including squash, cabbage, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Seeds for flax and woad, which was used to produce dyes for royal robes, will also be available, as well as several special gifts and accessories for gardeners. For more information:

Cradle of Life: Image Early Opening Reception
2:00pm - 4:00pm
Utilizing radiation cradles as sculptural totems, Marion Behr creates poignant symbols that hearken back to the trials of her personal fight against breast cancer, the emotional journey of her time spent receiving radiation treatment, and the message of hope and regeneration that these colorful, expressive objects inspire. Each cradle is part of an intimate, highly-personal narrative told with raw candor. And though they document the whole range of emotions the artist experienced during her treatment & recovery, they ultimately speak to the resilience of the human spirit. Truly, this is an exhibition you don’t want to miss! This exhibition runs through July 7, 2012. Admission: FREE - For more information:

John Scarpulla Band w/ Honest Mistakes
Raised in New York City, John Scarpulla began playing subway stations and bars in and around Manhattan in his early twenties. His songwriting has evolved over the past 15 years from intimate walks through the blue-black city streets and barrooms of New York City to autumn brown country roads paved with gratitude.
Scarpulla has a loyal grassroots fan base, and continuously tours throughout the northeast. His sound is best described by jazz bassist Joe Fonda as, "true lyrical poetry that is rooted in the blues and has a deep groove." The music is seamless and moves effortlessly between powerful testimonials of love and redemption and mournful ballads of regret and perseverance.
Honest Mistakes are a powerhouse led by vocalist and songwriter Becca Frame. Her songs stir up the soul of the likes of Joplin and Ethridge. The band creates a powerful mix of blues, country and rock 'n roll.

June 9th - The Delta Generators
As their name implies, The Delta Generators combine the urgency and soulfulness of delta blues with the power and energy of early rock 'n' roll. Vocalist Craig Rawding, guitarist Charlie O'Neal, and simmering rhythm section Rick O'Neal (bass) & Jeff Armstrong (drums) are always looking to expand their well-honed musical palette, and on their sophomore studio release they gracefully touch on blues, soul, funk, rock n' roll and even country! The impressive songwriting and musical chops would be enough in themselves, but the Delta Generators also have that certain indescribable quality that makes a band special. As music critic Bill Copeland wrote, "The Delta Generators are one of those rare bands that go beyond talent to arrive at charisma and that extra something that just makes listeners take a strong liking to it".

The Meishlunday - new this season
Originally performing the rural area of Laurens, NY, the Jenkins' brothers began playing Stephen's songs in local venues, community events, and Boy Scout functions in the Otsego County area. Heavily influenced by the work of Dave Matthews Band, Damien Rice, and Mumford and Sons, their songs began gaining momentum in the surrounding rural areas and small cities, and they acquired a faithful and upbeat crowd. Expanding the traditional rock-band lineup, the Meishlunday makes use of the electric fiddle, saxophone, and flute. These sounds, combined with tight 3-part vocal harmony, make for a unique, thrilling show.

September 8th - The Delta Generators
As their name implies, The Delta Generators combine the urgency and soulfulness of delta blues with the power and energy of early rock n' roll. As music critic Bill Copeland wrote, "The Delta Generators are one of those rare bands that go beyond talent to arrive at charisma and that extra something that just makes listeners take a strong liking to it."
