Sweet Home for
Man's Best Friend (and other critters)
For many of us, home is made far sweeter by the addition of barks, meows and the occasional grunt and whinney.
Make no bones about it...
If that descibes your household, you'll be glad to know that Oneonta (and its 4-legged population) is well served by a legion of dedicated pet care professionals.
KEEPING A PET IN ONEONTA
Oneonta Municipal Codes prohibit the harboring of any animal other than domesticated pets within the city limits. In addition, the many wild and domestic birds that make their home in Oneonta are protected by law from all harm or molestation.
Barking, howling, and otherwise noisy dogs are prohibited, and all dogs must be on a leash when off the owner's premises. It is unlawful to hitch your pet to any shade or ornamental tree, or to tie your pet so near such a tree as to permit it to injure the tree.
The annual license fee is $10.00, except for residents aged 62 and over who are required to pay $3.00 annually for their dog's license. The City of Oneonta also offers multi-year license options. Contact the City Clerk’s Office for more information. (607) 432-6450.
The removal of canine waste by whom ever is walking the dog is a common courtesy expected of all Oneonta residents. It is also the law; violations of which are punishable by fines ranging from $25 to $100.
